Condition wise it's a bit scruffy round the edges here (bit of minor welding
etc) and there and has fibreglass front
wings which don't give very good door gaps that will eventually be replaced by
metal ones I've been given by a mate. The engine mods were only 'half done' so are being done
properly this time, plus it leaked here and there (although as yet there's nothing I didn't know about
beforehand).
The 4 wings have been resprayed badly at some point with silicone contamination.
Interior wise needs carpets and a drivers seat cover, a tidying up of the dash
wiring & a good scrub.
All in I would call it an unfinshed project.
Progress
So far the job list has included
Remake the 4-1 exhaust so that the dipstick can be used (the dipstick tube had been
cut off and welded up!!)
Aluminium coat the exhaust (£10 by Marawise in Coventry)
Fabricate some exhaust hangers for the backbox
New oil and petrol pipes (Nuneaton hose & fittings & Matty Walker)
4 new pushrod tubes, seals and flywheel oil seal.
Found one snapped piston ring which was replaced by a new one donated for free
by elite vw in essex - thanks!
Move the external cooler and embed it into the floor under the rear seat with a
custom made ally scoop under the car. custom Made the air box under the seat with
air extraction hole and a suck through modified vw polo radiator fan. A mate Reg
made the top cover for this, utlising an old hub cap! - looks good as well as
doing it's job.
Fitted a black carpet set (2/h unused)
4 2/h over-riders
1 rear brake cylinder
Raised the front suspension which was too low for the speed bumps round here
(beam was 5cm off the ground)
Ebay yielded some very cheap clear front indicators which finished the front off
nicely
A set of hoses to connect the f.i. head to the turbo and turbo to inlet were
made by Tezza of volkszone (for a great price)
Fitted an in-line thermo-switch to control the oil rad fan
Photo part way through rebuild hence a bit messy but showing
the rough setup:
*Update*
shock, horror - some progress!
Currently over at volksmagic having some fabrication done for metering head
mounts and air intake.
New location for the metering head will on n/s and will feed from air intake in
the wings.
The rather dodgy looking plastic fuel hoses will be replaced by braided from
a mk1 golf too.
