History
Christened Lucy, this was bought in July 1999 from Richard from Edubs vw club (see main page link) as I'd always fancied a camper, couldn't afford a more expensive one and the '62 ragtop still being up in cumbria at my folks. Bought as a non runner in need of resto, half primered it had a rotten d/s sill, front lower valance, rear p/s door to w/arch, buckled front panel and some patches needed here and there. Mechanically, it needed a lower p/s ball joint, accelerator cable & the handbrake adjusting for the MOT. Engine wise - new carb & exhaust + screaming engine. Interior was all there, apart from a tap & door panel, but was very grubby etc.
As bought:

Put it in for the MOT the Tuesday before vanfest. Failed on only the headlights being out of aim and no full beam warning light on the dash which were quick to fix. Didn't idle, but we packed up and headed off on Saturday morning with Richard (the p.o.) from EDUBS. See Vanfest Report for details and photos.
So far it's had new d/s outer sill, some patching in the floor corners, outrigger and under the cab steps. Also a new p/s sliding door to wheel arch panel. Other bodywork is covered in the rolling resto section
Finally got the engine going :-)
Changed the carb to a 32/36, bought from another edubber @ bug jam for 40 quid as the
spindle was leaking on the old one, new 009 for 25 @ tatton, leads, plugs, points &
replaced the rotten fuel lines for safety. The current exhaust (monza 4 tip) is
being binned as it reduces performance, wakes the dead in the cemetry down the road &
wouldn't be popular with the neighbours at 7:30 each morning. This was replaced
a few years later by one of Laurie Pettitt's superb 1776 engines with a
wasserboxer crank which certainly helped push it up the hills.
Interior has been stripped and painted & lino laid in the back and around the seats. We decided to paint the wood indigo (dulux satinwood 'simply indigo') and the melamine surfaces in lilac (special melamine paint by International).
Bit of graffiti style paint was added in return for a rear corner replacement which tidied things up a lot
