Removing / fitting bay bumpers (early style)

Tools Needed

• 19mm spanner/socket   *often these are different sizes
• 13mm spanner/socket

Time taken: 10 mins

Method - Front bumper


On your back with your legs sticking out the front of the van you should see the 2 bumper brackets holding the font bumper on to the 2 main chassis rails. Now look at the underneath of the steps (where the bumper wraps around the side of the van and you should see 2 bolts (usually 13mm) holding the step part of the bumper to the front wheel arch on either side. I say usually, because the steps are often rotten. So, 8 bolts in all. Undo the 2 on each step 1st, then start on the four 19mm bolts holding on the main bumper brackets. Take 2 completely off then loosen the other two. Balance the bumper on something / your leg / get someone to hold it and undo the last two. Refitting is, as they say, reverse of the above. It's usually easier with 2 people though to get the holes aligned.

Method - rear bumper

Similar set-up to the front. 4 large bolts holding the main bumper irons on either side of the engine and two (sometimes 13mm / 10mm) at the sides. These ones at the side, bolt a strap from the corner of the bumper (nearest the wheel arch) to the body. Undo the side ones first and then the middle ones
