Kirst's first car
We bought this from a garage in Birmingham after looking for a car for Kirst who
was due to start work the following week. One of the last mk1's, it had 3
previous owners 45k miles on the clock and a full mot for £550 so couldn't
complain. Being a 1.1 it was cheap on the insurance, but sounded like a wasp in
a bottle on the motorway at 70mph. The colour was pargas blue. Interior was very
good, with a bit of wear on the drivers seat but that was about it.
The Formel E spec was designed to make it more economical and featured:
During the 3 years we had it, it didn't need much apart from regular servicing items, an exhaust and a clutch. We had to do 1 tiny bit of welding but that was it. We also changed the wheels to mk1 gti ones as the tiny stock ones had useless grip on the windy country lanes Kirst used every day.
In the end, we sold it to a mate, who had it about a year and sold it to
another mate. 3 years later we got it back off him with a view to it being a
daily driver over winter for me, but after a month of warmth (bug didn't have
heaters at the time) a change of plans meant we had to pass it on to
another mate. Will it come back for a 3rd time?
