1302 Eurolook project
The Start

The car
The car is a LHD 1971 1302s. It was an abandoned project bought off a mate. He had replaced the heater channels so that was a good start.
It was originally bought as a project for my brother in law, but Ken emigrated to NZ  and the bug sat for 3 years in the back garden. As I was about to get my finger out the chance to feature on Beetle Crisis  came up. Local TV company Skibbly TV were filming Campervan Crisis about a good mate Nige and his epic van resto and they wanted to do a 5 part series on a bug too. After plucking up the courage, we rang them, did a on screen test and things were go.  Even though the channels were sound there were a few places that needed attention:
front bumper mount, front valance, some bits on both rear quarters, front of the framehead, front & rear valances.

The 02 was an abondoned project bought off a mate (heater channels done) for my brother in law. It then spent the next 3 years rusting in our back garden and last year he emigrated to NZ. Deciding it was too good to scrap, we though we'd try and make something interesting out of it. It needed a bit of welding on the body, usual places (yes, we knew about the damaged framehead before we started) and converting to rhd, set of wings, some doors, interior & an engine.

Why a 1302?
I've been asked this by a few people and the simple answer is because it was (in my opinion) too good to scrap, it needed doing anyway and has far better handling than a torsion bar beetle. The channels had already been done and the strut mount areas were all solid, but it was bad enough that we didn't have to worry about chopping it about a bit. It also suited the euro / German look better than a 'normal' bug
