Custom Dash, Recessed Fuel
Filler, Polo Steering Column and RHD Conversion by Volksmagic (0121 5412278)
I'd hoped to get slightly further along with the prep by this stage but as
you know these things rarely work out like that.
I got in contact with Volksmagic after seeing their polo steering column fitted
to a buggy they made for Volksworld Magazine a couple of years ago as I liked
the idea and it fitted the modernising theme. Lee (the owner) was enthusiastic
about the project and agreed to help us out (and he certainly did that!). As
well as supplying most of the new parts, Lee also custom fabricated the dash
which included recessed gauges and a hidden flip down tv screen recess and ps2
slot. He also made
the recessed filler neck and completed the rhd conversion including fitting a
column and switchgear from a modern vw polo. He hadn't seen the bug before he
came over to pick it up and I have to admit being quite nervous about it as I
hadn't got as far as I'd wanted with it. I knew I wanted a custom dash but was
unsure about how to go about it. Lee's done this plenty of times so with his
help we were able to plan out a dash that morning incorporating the digital
gauges, tv screen and ps2 on the morning he came to pick the bug up. The shell then went off to their workshop near
Birmingham for a week of work.
