The seats were 2/h Audi TT leather seats we got from volkmagic and were very comfy. These fitted in nicely with some modifying of the bases. The rear seat was a donated mk1 GTI seat. This needed to be modified so the metal frame was chopped and welded to fit the narrower (at the top of the backrest) bug body. The seat then went off to the trimmers so this could be trimmed before the rest of the car arrived to save some time.
The engine had largely been built on the engine workshop day with Laurie but there was still a lot of fiddly bits to do such as installing the remote filter and cooler with the associated plumbing, wiring up the gauges etc. Fitting the engine itself caused a bit of headscratching. As the engine used a wasserboxer crank it had a type 4 flywheel. This sometimes necessitates some clearancing of the gearbox bell-housing but as our box was a late one this was ok. You will often find an aircooled engine will either slot straight in or take ages of pulling and pushing. Unfortunately this was the latter, until we put a bit of grease on the input shaft and it popped straight in (I'll remember that now for next time). The removeable valance was a great help fitting the engine too. Once all the ancillaries were sorted it was time for the exhaust. The header part of the exhaust went on with no problem and was wrapped with exhaust wrap to keep the temperature away from the rear valance etc (I'd also made a rear tinware section to replace the original as the original touched the exhaust). The backbox section however, wouldn't fit. It was too wide and fouled on the rear calipers and was too close to the tyres to be safe. It was now about 9pm the day before the car went over to Lee's so I couldn't fire up the grinder and re-cut the exhaust so I had to beg yet another favour off Lee.
