Build Up Day

Rich and I next spent a couple of evenings doing various bits and bolting the body to the pan. Stainless nuts & bolts were used throughout (except suspension stuff etc as they aren't up to the job). We decided to have a build day on the late August bank holiday Saturday and get a team of mates around to see how much we could get done in one go. Many thanks have to go to the following: Nige, Paul, Adi, Jon, Stuart and Mark who were a great help. Whist we were busy in the garage our better halves had an inaugural meeting of the vw widows club ;o)

The day started off  with the car mainly as it was from the day with Lee. We hoped to get it rolling and the bolt on panels in place so they wouldn't get damaged as the garage was getting somewhat cramped. The front steering was built up in preparation for fitting the struts and the doors were bolted on. The struts used were aftermarket Leda narrowed items I'd found 2/h at the Volksworld Show earlier in the year For £120  (only other sets we found were £500+). New neoprene rubbers were fitted to the suspension and the front brakes were built up with all new running gear. Flexi hoses were goodridge braided items I'd had in the loft for a while (there's a theme here - I hoard too much stuff!).  We fitted the Wolf electric window kit which I'd managed to find 2/h locally for £100 through Volkszone. This really is a quality bit of kit - well made and fits first time. We were using one piece windows to go with the euro look so longer glass holders were required to stop the windows wobbling.
